FAQs

How can I cook a can of HORMEL® MARY KITCHEN® hash so it gets crispy?

It takes patience to get crispy hash. In a heavy skillet (preferably not a non-stick skillet) over medium heat, spread the hash in an even layer and do not disturb for 5 minutes. With a spatula, lift up a corner of the hash to see if it has developed a crust. If it hasn’t, cook a few minutes longer. If it has developed a crust, turn over the hash and cook 3 to 4 minutes or until a crispy crust has formed on both sides.

Your corned beef hash is quite delicious despite the high sodium content (990mg) perhaps a recommendation if I may, a lower sodium content would be both healthier and may attract far more customers in the future!

Comments about Roast Beef Hash

I usually get corned beef, but tried roast beef this time. It was just a meat and potatoes mash, very pasty and runny. I'm not sure if this is typical, but corned beef usually is chunkier and firmer. Won't buy this again.

Response from Hormel Foods

Hi Junko, we are sorry to hear about your recent experience! Please search for a separate email direct from our team! We would like to get this reported to Quality Control.

Comments about Roast Beef Hash

I've 'read' people say that it runs out of the can. NEVER have I had this. After I get it out, I have to chop it up a bit to cook it. Microwaved, or better, in a skillet, it is delicious. Not my wife's favorite, but it is mine. Never had it 'sloppy', but by itself or with other things, it's great, side dish, main dish, great.

My father made this hash when i was a kid. He would shape it like a doughnut and cook an egg in the middle. It is delicious. And now i make this for my kids. I rate this hash a 10 out of 10. I would recommend it to anyone who wants a good breakfast

Comments about Roast Beef Hash

Im a Cowboy Chef and have used Hormel HASH for years, but unfortunately, I have had too many complaints about its quality. I can actually make my own homemade version cheaper and tastier. I sure hate to see your company go down the tubes, just like everything else in the USA. Where is your pride? I was shocked to find that even my old Dog turned his nose up at the Roast Beef Hash that I tossed out after too many customer complaints.

Response from Hormel Foods

Good Morning CWMILES, we are sorry to hear you no longer care for our product! I will be passing your feedback along to our formulation team.

Hash Soup

Comments about Roast Beef Hash

I've eaten this brand of hash for decades. Instead of a nice firm consistency the last four cans were soupy as if it were half water. Heating it produced clouds of steam and left much less hash than you would expect. I used to love this stuff, now it is horrible.

Comments about Roast Beef Hash

I'm 61 years old and this is the first time I have ever tried cooking this. I fried the hash and then put a couple of eggs on top. It was very good, but it really didn't have much flavor to it. I think the next time I will add some green chilies and cheese to the hash. Or maybe some diced tomatoes and jalapeños. I did enjoy my breakfast and look forward to experiments with the hash in the future.
